Good Beer Guide:
28 February, 2014
Category: Default
The Branch has completed its selection of the pubs which will go into the next Good Beer Guide. We have done our best but rely heavily on scores sent in by local members - see http://wirral.camra.org.uk/BeerScoring.php The Guide will be published later this year. Why is our favourite pub in the Guide? This could be for a variety of reasons. For example the licensee has left recently or is planning to leave the pub, we haven't received sufficient reports about the pub to justify its inclusion or the beer quality is inconsistent - often caused by having too many beers for the turnover of the pub or bad cellar practices such as returning beer to the cask, not cleaning the beer lines or simply not replacing the hard peg in the cask overnight.
New Brewery for Wirral:

The Britman Brewery is set to open for business once the brewing license has been approved by HMRC. Situated in the old stables of Burton Manor, the brewery is tiny by any standard, more a nano brewery with a 100 litre brew length - that is equivalent to two 9 gallon firkins and a few bottles from each brew. The 3 beers they hope to brew once they get approval will be a 4% best bitter (a Timothy Taylor landlord type of brew) a 4.5% Porter and a 4.5% Golden ale. It is hoped the beers will be available in selected local pubs.
