Brimstage Brewery Wins International Beer Mat Set of the Year:

Brimstage’s beer mats have gained the accolade of International Beermat Set of the Year from the British Beermat Collectors Society. The beer mats were based on the design of the brewery’s eye catching pump clips which were the idea of the brewery’s owner Neil Young and painted by local artist Catherine Dipple.
Wirral Breweries Celebrate Brewing Awards:

Both Brimstage and Peerless breweries are celebrating success in the North West SIBA (Society of Independent Breweries) competition in October. Brimstage won Gold in the Best Bitter category with Scarecrow Bitter and a Bronze for Trappers Hat in Standard Bitter. Peerless won Gold with Knee Buckler in the Strong Bitter category and for Jinja Ninja in the Speciality Beers and Silver for RIOT Stout in the Premium Strong Beers.
New Off License:

A new off license opened its door in Oxton in October. Homebrew is situated in Oxton Village almost opposite the Oxton Bar & Kitchen. It specialises in bottled beers including local and other British bottle conditioned beers and an interesting range of beers from around the world. Discount of 10% on all bottled beers for card carrying CAMRA members.
The Ring O Bells:

The Ring O Bells in West Kirby has new managers. Ben and Louise Guy previously ran the award winning Pheasant in Birstall, West Yorkshire and in their time there transformed the pub from a single hand pump operation into a pub with a real ale reputation for providing the best what was available through Greene King on four hand pumps. They are both real ale enthusiasts and have already started to bring in more unusual beers from the Greene King range into the Ring O Bells and hope to persuade the area management to allow them to introduce guest beers from micro-breweries on the SIBA list.

Wetherspoons International Real Ale Festival is now running and will feature 50 beers from the UK inspired by beer styles and ingredients from around the world. The festival runs to 2 November.
LocAle:

Three more Wetherspoons pubs are now LocAle accredited. The Mockbeggar Hall, Hoylake Lights and the Dee Hotel have joined the LocAle scheme (see LocAle for details of the scheme and all the Wirral pubs in the scheme). These three pubs will serve at least one locally produced real ale and currently they usually serve at least one real ale from Peerless brewery and often a beer from Cheshire Brew Brothers.
