Campaign for Real Ale

Wirral Branch Pub of the Season

The Pub of the Season award is an opportunity to recognise a pub that is promoting real ale and a good pub atmosphere. This may include a pub which would not necessarily do well in other competitions such as the Pub of the Year or even be considered for inclusion in the Good Beer Guide.

Any pub nominated must sell real ale in good condition. There are no other set criteria or judging processes (as in the Pub of the Year competition).

The pub must not have received an award from the Branch in the previous two years.

The award is presented quarterly in Spring (April/May), Summer (July/August), Autumn (October/November) and Winter (January/February).

Pubs can be nominated by any Wirral Branch CAMRA member in person at Branch meetings in February, May, August and November.

No further nominations are accepted and a vote is taken at the next Branch meeting (this allows members time to visit the pubs before a vote) with the presentation about 2 months later (this allows time to publicise the presentation well in advance).

Before a vote is taken, the person who nominated the pub (or another supporter) may speak for up to two minutes and further discussion on that pub is then restricted to two minutes.

Any Wirral Branch CAMRA member may vote in person at the meeting. The pub with the most votes is the winner. Where two or more pubs have the same number of votes for the first place, all other pubs are excluded. The Chairman of the meeting may then at his/her discretion allow limited further discussion before a further vote is taken to establish the winner.

Once the winner is decided, it will only be in exceptional circumstances that the award is not made.
